Maria Janzen was born on December 1, 1934, in Molotschna, Ukraine. Her early years were marked by loss and wartime hardship, leading her family through displacement, a refugee camp in Berlin, and eventual immigration to Paraguay with help from the MCC. There Maria came to faith, which became the steady foundation of her life.
In 1955, she married Jacob Janzen and became mother to a growing family. They moved to Canada in 1959, building a warm and lively home in Vancouver and later Abbotsford. Maria met every challenge with quiet strength—caring, sewing, cooking, and creating a place of love and stability.
A faithful servant, she contributed wholeheartedly to her churches and volunteered for many years at the MCC thrift store. Even in her later years at Tabor Court, she continued to offer friendship, care, and gentle kindness.
Maria’s life was defined by practical love, steadfast faith, and a generous spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and grace that her family carries forward with deep gratitude.
