September 26th, 1938 I was born at home in the small village of Sotwell, England. My parents were Percy and Ivy Owen. I joined my sister Dilys, 18 months older than I.
My parents both loved and honoured God, and taught us to love and obey God. 13 happy years were spent in England. In 1952 as a family of 4 we emigrated to Canada. Kelowna, BC became our new home. I attended and graduated from school in Kelowna. At about 14 years of age I attended an Inter School Christian Fellowship retreat. There I stood up and committed my life to serve the Lord wherever He led me. Shortly after, I was baptized in Bethel Baptist Church, Kelowna.
Following graduation I left for Alberta and entered Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills. After 2 and a half years of study I had to leave due to health reasons. Recovery followed. Next I started Nurses Training in Kamloops, but due to health and inability to cope with the studies I left.
A period of discouragement, disappointment and depression at yet another failure followed. I also felt very far from the Lord and did not live close to Him at this time.
I moved to the Lower Mainland and entered training at Essendale School of Nursing. Two years later I graduated as a Psychiatric Nurse. 5 and 1/2 years followed nursing in Vernon, BC. Then I was accepted and trained for 2 years at British Columbia Institute of Technology and graduated as a Registered Nurse. For about 14 years I nursed at St. Mary’s Hospital in New Westminster. Again health problems caused me to go on a disability pension, then finally to an early retirement from Nursing.
I lived in Vancouver, Burnaby, then 10 years in Coquitlam. My Mother passed away in 1983. I looked after my Father at home for 2 years before he needed a Care Home for 3 years. I visited him almost daily until his passing in 1988.
In 1996 I moved to Abbotsford. I soon found Grace Church and decided that was where I would worship.
My life has been one of many ups and downs, many losses of loved ones and friends. Being single has brought many lonely periods into my life, and though I have not always felt the Lord with me, He has always been there, and never left or forgotten me.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 17, 2025, at 10:30 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, located at 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC, V2T2X5, Canada. A Reception will follow at 11:30 pm in the Reception Room at the same location.
