Mary was born in Prud’Homme, Saskatchewan to Stephen and Esther Viczko. She is survived by her daughters: Jane, Shirley (Norm), Bernadette, and Theresa; and her sons, Christian (Brenda), Mark (Linda) and Patrick (Jan). She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
In her late teens Mary moved to B.C. where she met and married Ernest Anthony Meyers. They took up residence in Burnaby where they reared their seven children.
For many years Mary was an active member of St. Theresa’s parish where she volunteered her time helping out at Church Bazaars or Strawberry Teas. One year her culinary staying power was especially tested when she baked 30 apple pies for a church supper.
She was a very social person and loved sports. Well into her eighties she bowled, square danced, and played back catcher and third base on a softball team. She also loved attending Symphony concerts.
Mary valued family and education highly and instilled in her children the importance of achievement, commitment and a strong work ethic.
The service and reception to pay tribute to Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Coquitlam Alliance Church, located at 2601 Spuraway Avenue in Coquitlam (corner of Como Lake and Mariner).
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hendersonsabbotsfordfunerals.com for the Meyers family.
