I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Mel while on vacation in Mexico. Mel could light up a room, and dazzle on the dance floor. He was always smiling, and was a true gem. I quickly became friends with both Mel and his wonderful wife Lisa, and I treasure all of the laughs and mis-adventures that we got up to in that one incredible week.

Much love Lisa to yourself and all of your family.
Beyond words and forever in my heart.

Very sorry for you loss of Mel and my condolences to the family. I grew up in the dugout at Elwood watching Mel and my dad Bruce play ball. Some of the guys in the dugout were gruff and didn’t want me around but Mel was always kind and would take care of me if he was riding the pine. His smile and laugh will forever be missed. Now he can have one with the other lost legends that played ball in Abbotsford.

When I was a very young man, lost in this world. Mel stood up to me and challenged me to be a man. I owe everything in my life to him. He made his mark on this life. He will not be soon forgotten.
