Michael H. Ellenwood

Michael was born in Red Deer, AB and grew up in Sherwood Park, AB. Michael graduated from the University of Alberta in 1985 with a Business Commerce degree. His career as a Chartered Accountant took him to various Canadian cities: Edmonton, Abbotsford, Brandon and finally back to his home for the last 18 years, Abbotsford. In 2000, during this busy time, he added the CPA designation to his list of achievements. Michael was respected for his work ethic and his notable career successes. He was never one to seek recognition, rather he quietly and generously gave of his time in the mentoring of those around him. He spent countless hours building into the youth in the community by coaching sports, and offering life-skills advice to young people around him. His friends and neighbours will definitely notice his absence during tax time. He was always willing to assist them, even though he had worked long days doing exactly that in the office.

He balanced his challenging career with an amazing series of trips with Tracey, his partner in life. They did numerous cruises and camping trips throughout their nearly 23 years of marriage. These memories were often recounted through the years but are even more precious to Tracey now. Many vacation hours were spent choosing exactly the right present for the ones at home, especially grandsons Christopher and Carson.

They hosted many memorable parties in their gorgeous Abbotsford home. Together they created the beautiful landscaping, maintained the freshwater pond and enjoyed long hours on the deck, taking in the peaceful setting they had created. Michael’s beloved Black Lab, Dexter, will miss the daily walks they took. The neighbours remember Mike tossing and Dexter fetching that glow-in-the-dark ball, even late into the night.

Michael – husband, father, papa, son, brother, friend will be lovingly and fondly remembered by his wife Tracey, son Matt and daughter-in-law Bev Bolan, grandsons Christopher and Carson and his mom Karen Ellenwood, sister Susan Ellenwood, nephew Robert Read and niece Lisa Read-Busse, great nephews Bobby and Thane, sister Donna Dustow and brother-in-law Jim, and nephew Chance.

Mike made an exceptional effort to stay in touch with those he cared about. Now he will be sadly missed by many in his extended family, and his friends from Abbotsford and Edmonton. After so many years of working together and forming friendships, Mike’s friends and coworkers at MNP will feel the loss acutely.

Michael was predeceased by his dad, R. Ken Ellenwood, his grandparents and his uncle Mick Ellenwood.

A celebration of life for Michael Ellenwood will be held at the Quality Inn, 36035 N. Parallel Rd. Abbotsford BC. June 13, 2019 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
