Dear Herta

Firstly, We had no idea of Ron’s passing: sincere apologies and, that you had moved to White Rock. We’re in North Vancouver. 

We remember you both well and enjoyed our occasional times together when I was managing the Mac. in Edmonton. I also remember your involvement with Mennonite choral singing.

I had the pleasure of knowing and also working for and with-in many areas of Canada with Ron for over 20 years. In addition, I had the distinct pleasure of knowing his wife Herta as well. I cannot describe in words how fantastic it was to have Ron as a mentor, teacher, and friend. I will treasure the times that Ron took me to lunch at his favourite restaurant in downtown Edmonton where everyone knew him as a friend and by first name. This was also the case for Ron with his son Paul who both honoured me with visits to their favourite restaurant in downtown Calgary as well.  These memories will never leave me. It is with deep respect and further with heartfelt condolences that I write this tribute to Ron & Herta, for his son Paul (who introduced me to Ron) and for all of Ron's family. I also write this brief note on behalf of my wife Deborah. Deborah really enjoyed knowing Ron & Herta as well. I will never forget Ron's bright spirit, wisdom, business acumen, and his fantastic ability to teach so many of us valuable lessons while making the experience both fun and truly interesting. We will remember Ron as this man of genial presence, with a resonant voice that immediately drew you in. We knew you folks from the River East Church in its early years and saw you as people who willingly embraced the work of the church and supported it with enthusiasm. That's how we'll always remember Ron. He was in there with energy and spirit. This happy quality made it easy for others to engage and work with him. He's been a blessing both within the church community and within the wider business community where he also clearly served the common good.
