He was born on August 21, 1948 to William Edward Colwell and Clara Annie Wood in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He married Phyllis Noreen Oldham on October 23, 1971 and they had two children, Rhonda Louise Colwell and Heather Lynn Scott.
He worked mainly as a shipper/receiver at Eaton's for 32 years and then retired from Costco in 2014.
He was an avid lover of car racing. He spent time at Agassiz Speedway during his younger years (driver, pit boss, and flag man) and turned into a devoted fan in his later years. During summer vacations, he would take his family camping and fishing. His favourite spots for finding rainbow trout were Chain, Kentucky and Otter Lakes.
William is survived by his wife, two daughters, son in law, granddaughter, and two brothers.
