

Alvin “Freddie” Valdez, 61, of Abilene Texas lost his battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Alvin was born on February 26, 1956 to Maria Margarita Nieto and Manuel Valdez Sr. He is preceded in death by his mother; and brother, Manuel Valdez Jr. He is survived by his father; his wife, Kathy; his daughters Adryn Jester and husband Matt, Patricia Valdez and boyfriend Jowayne Carr; his grandchildren, Darynne, Ethyn, Alexis, Avery, and Dexton; his brothers, Miguel Valdez and wife Brenda, David Valdez and wife Elizabeth, Joseph Edward “Eddie” Valdez and girlfriend Barbara, and Carlos Valdez and wife Tanya; sister, Janie Brown and husband Robbie; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Alvin graduated from Cooper High School in 1975 and went on to serve his country as a Marine for 8 years. He then attended college at Mira-Costa University in Oceanside, California and in 1984 he graduated with an Associate Degree in Education. After college, he moved to Carlsbad California where he worked for 5 years at Hugh’s Aircraft. He then moved to Texas and worked at Dyess Air Force Base as a contractor for many years.
His companion, princess, and friend, was his dog Maddie, whom he loved dearly. His hobbies included fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He was also an avid painter and talented artist. He was grateful for Hendricks Oncology and his main doctor, Dr. Vega, along with Hendrick Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Hendrick Hospice. He will be missed dearly by his family and loved ones. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a Rosary starting at noon and mass to follow, and burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Rd. Abilene Texas, 79601.
