

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Albany, Texas with Reverend Marvin Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Albany City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene.
Ann was born September 25, 1912 in Cass County, Texas. She was the eldest of eight children of Willie David and Osie Wommack. Ann attended Hardin-Simmons University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from East Texas State Teachers College. Ann was a longtime resident of Albany where she was active in the Methodist church and in community affairs. Her husband, Cap, was the Chief Albany's Fire Department and managed Russ-Webb Motor Company. The family moved to Tahoka in 1965. Cap managed the Oldsmobile dealership and Ann taught school until she retired in 1992 at the age of 70. Ann was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and writer. She gifted friends and family with treasured special poems. She was also an avid letter writer.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W.O. "Cap" Whorton; a sister, Polly Russ; our brothers, Walter, Leon, Rex, and Ennis Wommack; and son-in-law, Eliot Farley, III.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Whorton Farley; two sisters, Jean Irvin of Henderson, Texas and Bobbie McNeil of Wills Point, Texas; one sister-in-law, Madie Curb of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
