Annie Ruth Ledbetter Downey

Annie Ruth Ledbetter Downey, 82, passed away Friday, February 07, 2014, at a hospital in Abilene. Services will be 10:00a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St., with Rev. Larry Baird and Rev. Russell Golden officiating. Burial will follow in the Albany Cemetery, Albany TX around 12:30p.m. because of the drive from Abilene. Visitation will be Monday, February 10, 2014 from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home.

Annie was born December 1, 1931 in Ft. Griffin, TX, (Shackelford County) to Walter K. Ledbetter and Annie Gray Ledbetter. She married Robert James Downey on June 27, 1956 in Albany, TX and moved to Abilene in 1966. Annie worked for Timex for several years and retired from Texas Instruments in December of 1991.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert in 1992; an infant daughter, Twylla in 1957; two brothers, Walter Ledbetter, Jr. in 1975, and Nathan Ledbetter in 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Nelda Downey of Abilene; three sons, Robert James Downey, Jr. and wife, Krista of Whitehouse, TX, Robert Brent Downey and wife, Sarah of Abilene, and Kenneth Wayne Downey and wife, Laura of Abilene; five grandchildren, Beth Lambright of Whitehouse, TX, Brad Lambright and wife, Whitney of Columbus, Georgia, Kristopher Downey and wife, Laura of Whitehouse, TX, Ian Sloan-Quinn, and Zachary Ian Downey; two great-grandchildren, Aydan Kristopher and Arianna Kaye Downey of Whitehouse, TX; three sisters, Vivian Havens and husband, Gene, Mary Baird and husband, Larry, and Betty Petree all of Abilene; three nephews, Shannon Baird and Dale Baird of Abilene, and Mark Petree of Cisco, TX.
