Barbara A. George, 64, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in a local medical center. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 pm in First Baptist Church of Hawley, with Brandon Newton officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Viewing is 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Born in Abilene on May 23, 1947, Barbara was the daughter of Charles Elmer Lucas, Jr. and Mary Scoggins Lucas. She loved her family very much. She was a member of Nugent Baptist Church and volunteered at Hawley Senior Citizens Center.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Allen George; and one sister, Cathy Lucas. Survivors include her husband, David George to whom she was married 47 years; 2 sons, David George Jr. and wife Liana of Hawley, and Eric George and wife Jolene of Abilene; two daughters, Christy New of Ft. Worth and Britney George of Hawley; one brother, John Rainey and wife Jennifer of Abilene; three sisters and husbands, Kelly and Mike Armstrong of Abilene, Mary and John Norris of Lake Livingston, and Edith Lucas Miller of Abilene; four grandchildren, Christopher Placker, Amanda George, Courtney George and Megan George; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
