Belzora Hamilton, 102, the first-born child to Jeff and Lillie Knight was born on August 11, 1918 in Milam County, TX. She was raised and attended public schools in Milam County, TX. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. In 1941, she was blessed with birth of her first-born child, Lonnie Knight. In 1946, she moved to Abilene and continued her fellowship at New Light Baptist Church. Eventually, she was the anchor for her younger siblings that moved to the Abilene area after leaving home. She was the consummate “Big Sister”. She met and married Horace Hamilton. Together they were blessed with four more children: Diane, Ronald, Donald and Elaine. Belzora was employed by the Abilene State School for many years. After retirement, she became a member of the Foster Grand Parents Program. She also worked as a volunteer for Abilene Public Schools for a number of years after leaving the Foster Grand Parents Program. Belzora resided at 5358 Congress for over 50 years. For many of those years, she was member and usher at Holiday Hills Baptist Church. In her later years, she very content to enjoy the comforts of her home and neighborhood. She spent early mornings and late evenings greeting and visiting with friends and neighbors while she watered her yard. She was a well-respected member of her community. She was a blessing to her family and friends. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace W. Hamilton Sr. (husband), Ocie Knight (brother), Lillie Faye Foreman (sister), Willie Tillie Holmes (sister), Lenard (LK) Knight (brother), Sedalia (Nay) Parks, Thelma Penny (sister), Ronald and Donald Hamilton (twin sons), Mary Diane Hamilton (daughter), and Keon Potts (Grandson). Belzora Knight-Hamilton leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Lonnie Knight (Shirley) of Houston, TX; one daughter, Elaine Hamilton of Abilene, TX ; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Berta (Baby Knight) Houston, Arthalia (Tay) Pope, and Frances Green all of Arlington, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, cousins, and friends.
