Bessie Jo Watson

Bessie Jo Watson, 92, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 in Mesquite. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St., with burial following in Abilene Municipal Cemetery. Bessie was born on August 14, 1925 in Winters to Lottie Mottie and Bessie Bell Sullivan. She attended Winters High School. She worked for West Texas Utilities, where she met Ben Watson and the couple married in 1946. Bessie enjoyed cooking, sewing, handwork and quilting. She became an active member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1986 and served as Recording Secretary, the President (1988-90) and the Registrar. She was a member of the University Church of Christ and taught Sunday school to toddlers for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her daughters, Claudia Jo and Susan Lynn; sons, Timothy Carl and Phillip Sterling; 7 siblings, George, Estrell, Altha, L.B., Elma, Oleta and Morris; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great granddaughters.
