Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2013, in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with burial following in the Albany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Betty Jane was born September 21, 1927 to R.R. and Zeta Sauer in Stanton, Texas. Her family later moved to Albany, where she met the love of her life, O.D. (Nig) Hale. She was working as the popcorn girl at the Aztec Movie Theater and he, the theater projectionist, was a young, handsome, World War II hero. They were married June 24, 1948 and during their 56 year marriage, they lived in Argentina, Colombia, Louisiana, and numerous cities in Texas before finally settling in Abilene. Along the way, Betty Jane occasionally worked, but was mainly a stay-at-home mom --- and a really good one.
She raised three children who grew up with an understanding of integrity, generosity, and boundless love. The Hale house was always where everyone wanted to hang out because Betty Jane made sure everyone was welcome and well fed. If she’d had more time, Betty Jane might have solved world peace with her fried chicken.
She is survived by her son and caretaker, David Hale of Abilene; daughter, Jan Moore and her husband, David of Odessa, Texas; daughter-in-law, Shelli Hale of Kansas City, Kansas; by those who gave her life extra joy and fulfillment and whom she loved with pure unconditional love --- her precious grandchildren, Lacy Howard and her husband, Bill, Kelly Moore, Kevin Moore, Matt Hale and his wife, Christy; Cassie Foster and her husband, Collin; and six great-grandchildren.
Although Betty Jane will be sorely missed, her loved ones have faith she has been beautifully restored in heaven where she is reunited with her husband O.D. (Nig) Hale; her son, Kim Patrick Hale; and an infant son, Keith Michael Hale.
