Betty Allene Hicks, born on April 30, 1945, to parents Lloyd McGuire and Selma (Harris) McGuire, passed away on November 19, 2025, at the age of 80. Betty was known for her compassionate, generous, honest, selfless, and thoughtful nature.
She was happily married to Jesse M. Hicks in San Angelo, Texas, on June 3, 1966, and they shared 49 wonderful years together. Betty was a devoted mother to her son, Devin Hicks, and her daughter, Genea Neble. She was a loving grandmother and a cherished great-grandmother.
Betty had a passion for unique plants and enjoyed genealogy work, often visiting cemeteries and courthouses around Texas. One of her proudest accomplishments was discovering her relation to the famous John Wayne. She was also known for making homemade lotion, flowers, and rib rub, and she had a special love for butterflies and Elvis.
Her community involvement was a testament to her generous spirit, as she created flowers and personalized crafts for those around her and attended March of Dimes events. She gave selflessly to her community without expecting anything in return.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Mesa Springs Healthcare Center and Hendrick Hospice for their support and care.
Betty is survived by her son, Devin Hicks (Tommie); daughter, Genea; grandsons, Gavin Smith, Cody Hicks, Anthony Blair, Jody Hicks (Bayley), Jesse P. Hicks (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren, Aubrey, and Roper; and three sisters-in-laws.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Jesse M.Hicks; sister, Charlotte; brother, Wayne; and son-in-law, Tommy.
Funeral services will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, on November 22, 2025, at 10:00 am. A committal service will follow at Elmwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5750 US-277, Abilene, TX 79606, at 11:00 am. Betty will be laid to rest at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for the service will include Anthony Blair, Michael Blair, Jesse P. Hicks, Cody Hicks, Jody Hicks, and Gavin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Roper Brown Hicks and Aubrey Blair.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mesa Springs HealthCare Center and Hendrick Hospice.
Betty Allene Hicks will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
