Bettye Ruth Jones

Bettye Ruth Fenter Jones, 93, of Abilene passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Anson. The service will be officiated by Norm Archibald. Bettye was born on March 12, 1924 to Edgar and Flora Harris in Chillicothe, Texas. She was the 7th of 8 children. She attended Ropesville High School and played basketball in the late 1930’s. Later, she moved to Lubbock and married D.L. Fenter, who was a sailor in World War II. After the war, they moved to Odessa in 1947. They worshiped at the 21st and Eisenhower Church of Christ for 43 years. Bettye attended Odessa College for 2 years and Draughon’s Business College for 2 years. She worked as a bank teller, office manager, bookkeeper, and finally as a business owner in Odessa B.F. Office Supply. Bettye married Leo Jones in 2007 and they were married for 10 years until his passing in 2017 at the age of 98. She is survived by her and D.L.’S 3 daughters, Betty Baker and husband Bob, Cathy Shipley and husband Dave and Lee Anna Ladyman; grandchildren Steve Baker, Jon Baker, April Holbrook, Kirby Wilson, Blake Shipley and Lindsay Pierson; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she had a great love for.
