Beverly Culbertson Wamble was born to Luther Ernest and Bessie Speir Culbertson in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 7, 1926. She died in Abilene, Texas, at Wesley Court Retirement Community where she was a long-time resident, on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
Beverly grew up in Savannah, Georgia where she graduated from Savannah High School. After high school Beverly attended Armstrong College in Savannah, Georgia, for a few years before transferring to Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education.
While attending Mercer, Beverly met Hugh Wamble, and they married in June 1947. After graduation, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where Beverly taught school and their children were born.
The family moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1958 and to Kansas City, Missouri in 1960, where Beverly, Hugh and family made their home for decades. Beverly taught in the Park Hill School district as she raised a family and served as a minister's wife.
Beverly served as a guidance counselor after earning a Master's Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1967 until her retirement in 1991. She received a Kindest Kansas Citian award that same year. Beverly relocated to Abilene, Texas, in 1999.
Beverly's Christian faith was important to her. She was a life-long Baptist and member of many churches throughout her life, including Bull Street Baptist Church (Savannah, Georgia); churches in Macon, Georgia and Louisville, Kentucky; Wornall Road Baptist Church (Kansas City, Missouri); Memorial Baptist Church (Columbia, Missouri); Englewood Baptist Church (Kansas City, Missouri; Antioch Community Church (Kansas City, Missouri); and First Baptist Church of Abilene, Texas.
Beverly was active in many organizations throughout her life and held memberships in Chi Omega Sorority, the P. E. O Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization), the American Association of University Women (AAUW), faculty wives clubs, Delta Kappa Gamma professional society for women educators, and Abilene Women's Club.
Beverly was friendly, funny, smart, independent and caring and will be missed.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter Beth Stiver and husband Dan, daughter Grace Wamble and husband Larry Piltz, granddaughter Carrie Stiver, step-grandson Eliot Piltz, and great-grandchildren, Iylan and Canyon Collier.
A memorial service will be held at Logsdon Seminary Chapel, Hardin-Simmons University on Sunday, November 18th at 4pm. Following the service, guests may greet the family. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Kansas City, Missouri.
Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of the Big Country or charities of your choice. Beverly loved flowers, so they are welcomed.
