Carl Eugene Hoemke

Carl Hoemke, 68, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at a local medical center.

A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013, in Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene, with Pastor Gary Cheek officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carl was born November 18, 1944 to Kurt Karl Hoemke and Eva Marie Miller Hoemke in Elyria, Ohio. He served his country in the United States Navy for nine years and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Carl served in Indonesia, Korea, and Vietnam. He served primarily aboard the USS Johnston, ported from San Diego, California. He received several medals and honors, while serving in the military, including National Defense Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnam Service Medals. After serving his country, Carl was employed by U.S. Brass as a Tech.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Hoemke.

Survivors include his former wife, Constance Kaye Hoemke; his sons, Robert Hoemke and wife Holly of Abilene, Texas and Carl R.E. Hoemke and wife Susa’n of Dallas, Texas; his daughters, Dawnette Thomas and husband Jack of Newaygo, Michigan, Cyndee Jago and husband Chris of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Hope Nielsen and husband Chad of Lincoln, Nebraska; granddaughters, Tiffany Przybysz and husband Mariusz of Abilene, Miranda Hoemke, Olivia Hoemke, Jessica Jefferson and husband James of Minot, North Dakota, Caylah Jago, and Mackenzie Neilson; grandsons, Hayden Hoemke, Landon Hoemke, Aaron Ashlock and wife Melanie of Abilene, Collyn Jago, and Cody Nielsen; great-granddaughter, Janelle Jefferson; and great-grandson, Ashton Ashlock.
