Carrell Dean Hopkins, 84, passed away January 13, 2021 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 21, 2021, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Albert Ezeanya officiating. Burial will follow at Abilene Municipal Cemetery, directed by Elliott Hamil Funeral Home. Mr. Hopkins was born on October 17, 1936 at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas to Henry Dee and Rose Lee (McCraw) Hopkins. He graduated with honors from Abilene High School in 1955, was captain of the tennis team and a four year letterman. He also participated in basketball and enjoyed golf for many years. He was an avid Texas Ranger and Dallas Cowboy fan. He worked in the wrecking/body repair business until he retired in 1991. His first job was with his dad at Hopkins Wrecking and he also owned Hopkins Body Shop. He married Ann Lehman on January 18, 1962 in Konawa, Oklahoma. Dean and Ann were active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann Hopkins of Abilene, 2 daughters, Mary Hopkins of Sweetwater, Texas and Kelly Dean Guadarrama of Abilene, 5 grandsons, Moises (Trey) Guadarrama III and wife Denae of Grapevine, Texas, Samuel Thomas Guadarrama of Houston, Texas, Andrew Dean Guadarrama, John Paul Guadarrama, Christopher James (CJ) Guadarrama all of Abilene, 1 granddaughter, Susie Teresa Guadarrama of Abilene, 1 great granddaughter, Gwen Rily Guadarrama of Grapevine, 2 sisters, Glenda (Foster) Ramsey and Judi Hopkins Lackey, both of Magnolia, Texas along with several cousins, nephews and nieces. Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rose Hopkins, a daughter, Susie Hopkins Lopez, and his son in law, Moises Guadarrama, Jr. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Elliott Hamil, 5701 HWY 277. Praying of the rosary will begin at 6:00 PM.
