

Carrie Hazel Batts Tabor, 65, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Abilene. Visitation will be held at Praise Temple C.O.G.I.C., 2490 Ambler Ave. on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. Funeral services will be 12:00p.m. at Faith Deliverance Comm. Church, 5501 US Hwy 277 S., on Saturday, April 11, 2015 under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Burial will be on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 12:00p.m. in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Carrie was born in Hammond, Texas on July 30, 1949 to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Batts, Sr. She was the youngest of eleven children. She attended school at Hammond Junior High, Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, TX and Prairie View A&M University. On August 24, 1969 she married Samuel E. Tabor. To this union, two children were born, Troy and Corey Tabor. She has four grandchildren; Star, Skye, Everett, and Anaia.
Carrie has traveled the world with her husband during his service in the armed forces; much time was spent in Guam, Great Falls, Montana, and Abilene. Upon her husband’s retirement, they relocated to Abilene where he became pastor of Praise Temple COGIC and she became the supportive first lady and loving mother for over 40 years. She worked as a personal care attendant for various companies for over 20 years. In the church she has served as Jurisdictional Secretary, Teacher, prayer team member, and auxiliary president. Carrie loved people and was very generous. She has been a renal patient for over 24 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Alma Perry of Austin, and Ms. Lilia Batts of Houston; three brothers, Joe Batts of Bay Town, Rev. Robert Batts, Jr.(Minyan) and Horace Batts of Houston; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Abilene Dialysis Center, Scott & White Hospital, and the Hendrick hospital staff for her care throughout the years.
