

Cecil V. Gann, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 15th, 2011 at a local nursing center. Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park on Thursday, October 20th at 11:00a.m. with Reverend Steve Joiner officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
Cecil was born on June 6, 1922 in Abilene, Texas. He lived his entire life in Abilene attending Abilene schools and graduating from Abilene High School in 1940.
He entered the USAF in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He met and married Mildred Logston in Sarasota, Florida in 1942. They were married for 68 years until her death in November 2010.
After his discharge in 1945, he and Mildred returned to Abilene where he went to work for the U.S. Post Office. He was a letter carrier for 34 years until his retirement in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lydia Gann, his wife Mildred Gann, his sister Juanita Candy and daughter-in-law Kay Gann. He is survived by one son Richard Gann and one daughter Judy Thompson and husband Lonnie; 6 grandchildren; Christy Key and husband Rob, Kathy Gann, David Gann, Scotty Thompson, Tanner Thompson and wife Marissa and T J Thompson. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; Kristin Jenkins, Jessie Gann, Austin Key, R J Key, Addison Thompson, Sawyer Thompson and Lainey Thompson.
Cecil loved to sing and whistle and was always sharing his "talent" with anyone that would listen. He was a good, honest Christian man, a loving father, grandfather and a true joy to be around. We were all so blessed and fortunate to have had him in our lives.
Thanks to all the wonderful, caring nurses on the 5th floor at Hendrick Medical Center who cared for him for 2 months and to all the staff at Northern Oaks Nursing Center. A special thanks to the Hendrick Hospice Care nurses that made his last days comfortable and peaceful.
