Cecilia Duran

Cecilia Moreno Duran, 90, formerly of Merkel, TX went peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at a local medical center in Abilene surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel, TX under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene, TX. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Merkel, TX. Visitation will be Friday evening at 6:00p.m. with rosary starting at 7:30p.m. at the funeral home.

Cecilia was born on November 22, 1921 in Clyde, TX. She married John Duran, Jr. in August of 1940 in Merkel, TX. She loved playing bingo, knitting, sewing, and traveling to Mexico. Cecilia loved to watch game shows and all of her friends and family knew not to call her between 2 and 4 because her favorite show was on.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Leandro and Estefana Moreno; her husband, John Duran, Jr.; three brothers, Albino, Candelario, and Jesse; and two sisters, Apolonia and Maria.

Survivors include sons, Lupe and wife, Lupita, Paul and wife, Debbie, and John III and wife, Angie; daughters, Gloria Mendoza and husband, Danny, Dori Berube and husband, Leon, Pat and fiance', Nestor; one brother, Marcelino Moreno; sixteen grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Leon Berube, Danny Mendoza, Ricky Sanchez, Robbie Duran, Cody Duran, and Raymond Moreno.
