

Curtis E. Conway, Sr., 91 a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather to great great grandfather & trusted friend went home to the Lord on June 21, 2026, after a courageous journey through declining health, at the Wisteria Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by family.
Born November 1,1934 in Hatchel, Texas. Curtis was the second of four siblings, a graduate of Ballinger High School. Curtis married Alma Bredemeyer in 1954. Curtis and Alma had many adventures in life, all while raising five children. Through Curtis’s years, he worked as a ranch hand, owning and running a service station and running a lathe at Automation Industries of Abilene. After settling and building his own home in Elm Valley, Curtis worked many years as a truck driver, but his proudest endeavor was becoming the owner and operator of C & C Contractors, which maintained Texas roadsides and rest areas, through which he was able to employ each of his sons.
Curtis was very involved in the West Texas Church of Christ community, then becoming a founding member of The Elm Valley Community Church, where he served the Lord in many capacities. Curtis loved hunting, bird watching, dominos, cards, but mostly just sitting under his gazebo at home.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Isaac (I.W.) and Blanche Conway, his wife Alma May, and brothers Billie Wayne and Wesley Charles.
Curtis is survived by his children Curtis(Curt) E. Conway Jr., Susan (Steven) Remshardt, William “Bill” Henry Conway, Michael (Gary Ruska) Conway and Jammie Lynn Conway, his sister Joann Barta, ten grandchildren, nine great-grand-children and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Northwest Church of Christ (1141 N. Willis St., Abilene, TX) with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery (3226 FM 89, Buffalo Gap, TX)
