

Dan P. Ortiz, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born September 2, 1924 in Abilene, Texas to Joe and Cruz Pasillas Ortiz. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Dan was a very compassionate person and would do anything to lend a helping hand. He and his wife Juana were members of the Primera Baptist Church in Abilene. He worked for the City of Abilene for 41 years, retiring as a Supervisor. He loved music and helped many young musicians explore and develop their musical talent. Dan was recently honored by his family and friends with a 90th birthday celebration complete with Mariachis, dancing and lots of food. His favorite times in life were when he was hosting family and friends at his home. Having just a 5th grade education himself, Dan was very proud of his two grandsons for receiving their college degrees.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juana M. Ortiz; daughter, Julie Ann Tippie; brothers, Israel and Joe Ortiz; and sister, Lupe Gonzalez. Survivors include his sons, Danny M. Ortiz and Adolfo Ortiz of Abilene; two grandsons, Mauro Omar Ortiz and wife Rebecca of Abilene and Joseph Daniel Rodgers of Houston; three great grandchildren; son-in-law, Steve Tippie of Little Elm; brothers, Louis Ortiz and Moses Ortiz of Abilene and Eliseo Ortiz of Mesquite; and sisters, Victoria Casares of Chula Vista, CA, Cruz Jimenez, Corina Gonzales and Naomi Martinez all of Abilene and Josie Rendon and Minnie Martinez of Houston.
Visitation will be held 6pm to 8pm Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30am Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home with burial following at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Rick Carrasco officiating.
