David Tweelings, 71, of Abilene, Texas, passed peacefully at his home overlooking his picturesque property on Lake Fort Phantom, surrounded by loved ones and close family friends on November 28th. 2025.
Born in Midland, Texas, David graduated from Midland Lee High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force with FTD 417. Following his service, he built a long and respected career as an ASE-certified Volkswagen Master Technician, working for both Sterling Volkswagen and Lawrence Hall Volkswagen in Abilene for more than four decades.
A longtime and dedicated member of the RC Society in Abilene, David found joy in craftsmanship, creativity, and community. His greatest passion, however, was his lake house—a sanctuary he built with his own hands, where he could look out over the water he loved so dearly.
David lived to teach, to repair, and to share his remarkable abilities with others. There was rarely anything he couldn’t fix, and even less he wouldn’t try. His curiosity, skill, and generosity shaped the many lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; his father, Albert; his brother, Jack; and his aunt, Florence. He is survived by Carrie Paynter of Grapevine, along with many cherished and devoted friends who were like family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Home Instead of Abilene for the exceptional care and compassion they provided during the last six months of David’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the 201 Mesquite Event Center in Abilene. All who knew and loved David are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in David’s honor.
