

A prayer service and visitation will be Sunday, December 26, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, South 8th and Jeanette Street, Abilene, Texas with the Reverend Bob Bush officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Highway 277 South, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Dolores was born February 9, 1920 in Portage, Wisconsin to Maurice Stack and Rose (McMahon) Stack.
Dolores married Lt. Col. William R. Smith, USAF (Retired) May 9, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. Bill and Dolly (Dolores) were happily married for sixty-two years.
Dolly was a wonderful wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her.
She graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin in the early 1940's. Although she did not practice, she volunteered her time and kept her license current.
Dolly was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She established a Religious Goods Store for her church which is named after her in her honor. Additionally, she was a member of the Abilene Pregnancy Counseling Center, and was a volunteer for Meal-on-Wheels for many years.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Stack and Rose Stack and her husband, Lt. Col. William R. Smith, USAF (Retired).
Survivors include son, Thomas Michael Smith and wife, Margo, of Ranger, Texas, daughter, Katherine Takach and husband, Neil, of Waikoloa, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jennifer Lyons and daughter, Robin, of Abilene, Texas, Katherine Smith of Abilene, Texas and sons, Joseph and Dustin, William J. Smith of Ranger, Texas, Dolores Slemmons and husband, Shane, and sons, Ryan and Hayden, of Mineral Wells, Texas, and James Smith (USMC) of Euless, Texas.
