Don B. Marlar, 88, of Abilene, Texas died November 16, 2018 at Hendrick Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Claremore, Oklahoma on June 23, 1930 to parents Robert and Viola Marlar. He was the oldest of 4 children.
Don fought in the Korean War. He was a gunner on a 155mm gun kicknamed "Long Tom". After his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Darlene Ruth Duket, on August 17, 1952 . Don worked in the oilfield, finishing his career as a production superintendent for Deminex US Oil Co.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Darlene.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Christy Marlar of Abilene, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Marlar of Wooster, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Rissa Marlar of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Holly Kroon, Chase Marlar, Stacey Reynolds, Ryan Marlar, Casey Marlar and Callie Marlar, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Gerald Marlar of Duncan, Oklahoma; brother Bobby Marlar of Pampa, Texas; sister Geraldine Shirley of Bellville, Texas; and close companion Karon Rogers of Abilene, Texas.
A visitation for Don will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home with burial to follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
