Doris J. Ross

Doris J. Ross, 92, died Wednesday, May 25th, 2011 in a local medical center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Hodges Baptist Church with Keith Clifton and Matt Cheevers officiating. Burial will follow in Hodges at Midway Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, May 27th from 6 to 8 pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Doris was born in Abilene on May 7, 1919, the daughter of Claude and Allye (Major) Lyons. A member of Hodges Baptist Church, Doris was a very caring, devout Christian who lived her faith every day, beginning with reading her Bible every morning. She loved to bake and crochet and had made afghans for all her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Barney Ross who passed away in 1993. She is survived by her son, Barney Ross Jr. and wife, Yolanda of Converse, TX; two daughters and their husbands, Yvonne and James Strickland of Hodges and Sandra and Mike Butcher of New Braunfels, TX; ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
