Dorothy Chaney

Dorothy Chaney, 87, died Monday January 9, 2012, in Waco, TX. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012 at Crescent Heights Baptist Church, Abilene, with Dr. Buddy Sipe, Greg Sipe and Rudy Fambrough officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born August 31, 1924 to Churchill and Inez (McCain) Oliver in Ben Wheeler, TX. She met Lawrence Chaney in Colorado City and married June 5, 1943 in Sweetwater, TX. They lived in Colorado City until moving to Abilene in 1954 and were married for 68 years until his death in 2001.

Dorothy was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church since 1956 and loved her Sunday School Class and NTO (Never Too Old) Group. She delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program and loved preparing food for others as well. Dorothy loved to sew, attend church, work in her flower garden, and write in her journal as she traveled on all her trips with her siblings. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, outstanding grandmother and a super great-grandmother. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all of her friends that are scattered all over this world and by her family who loved her deeply.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lawrence F. Chaney and a brother Allen Oliver.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Sipe and husband, buddy of Lorena, TX; her brothers, Charles Oliver and wife, Lois of Abilene and Harold Oliver of San Antonio, TX; her sister, Edith "Teen" Gunn of Grand Prairie, TX and Joy Morris and husband, Mac of San Angelo, TX; two grandchildren, Greg Sipe and wife, Kristi of Tomball, TX and Sampty Smith and husband, Kyle of Harleysville, PA; and six great-grandchildren, Macie Smith, Braden Smith, and Maili Smith all of Harleysville, PA and Savana Sipe, Landry Sipe, and Gentry Sipe all of Tomball, TX.
