Douglas James Doidge

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, Abilene. Burial of cremains will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, in Abilene City Cemetery (I.O.O.F.) Section, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.

Douglas “Doug” was born September 28, 1938 to Herbert J. Doidge and Agnes Jean Turbitt Doidge in Washington, Pennsylvania. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years with two tours in Viet Nam. Doug owned and operated Sports N Imports Parts Store in Abilene for 10 years. He worked as a machinist for Lockheed Martin for 7 years. His greatest passion was building and racing sports cars.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Doidge; a son, Daniel Doidge; and a grandson, Scott Doidge.

Survivors include his life partner, Dolores Gibson of Abilene; his son, David Doidge and wife, Barbara of Abilene; two sisters, Marilyn Mercado of Iowa and Eleanor Doidge of Chicago, Illinois; and two granddaughters, Sarah Steele and Isabelle Doidge.
