

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, Hwy 277, in Abilene. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Anson.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm also at the funeral home.
Jane was born at home on February 20, 1931, in Jones County, Texas. Jane was the youngest of three daughters born to the late George Overton Harrell and Fannie Mae (Boyd) Harrell. She married her high school sweetheart James R. Magee on October 20, 1949. They went on to have five children and Jane was a devoted, nurturing, and organized mother. The family lived in Anson, Albany, and Coleman until James’ passing in 1969.
Education was important to Jane. She graduated from Anson High School, attended Hardin-Simmons University, Cisco Jr. College, Angelo State University, Texas Women's University, and finally received her Doctor of Education from Nova University. She devoted herself to every aspect of the nursing profession. She worked as a nurse in the Albany and Coleman hospitals. She also played a pivotal role in shaping the profession through her contributions to the early curriculum for the Mary Meek School of Nursing Diploma Program and Abilene Intercollegiate School of Nursing. She was a professor of Nursing at San Angelo State University at the time of her retirement. Jane had also been a member of several nursing organizations. Her greatest contribution was made to her family as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, and painting. She was also a past member of the Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society. Though she was very accomplished professionally, her faith was the cornerstone of her life. In every town Jane lived in, she was active with a local church. She served the Lord with her beautiful voice and in later years, teaching many Bible Studies in her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James. R. Magee, and cherished sisters, Ann Pence, Aggie Hays as well as sister-in-law Yvonne Cheek and son-in- law Tony Reagan.
She is survived by her children, Brilla Reagan, Laura Cohen (Pedro), Ben Magee, Margaret Valdez (George), and Boyd Magee (Bonnie); 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
