

Thurman Castleberry, age 75, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 in a local medical center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Church of Christ, with Sonny Guild and Mike Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Thurman was born February 28, 1935 in Rochester, Texas, the son of J. R. and Ruby (Sturdivant) Castleberry. He graduated from Anson High School and Cisco Jr. College. He married Anna Lanotte in Anson January 29, 1954 and from there moved to Abilene in 1956. He retired from the Abilene Fire Dept. after 29 years of service. Thurman was a certified locksmith and a longtime member of Woodlawn Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Anna on Dec. 22, 2000. Survivors include three sons, Aaron Castleberry and wife Debbie of Carmichael, CA, Brian Castleberry of Abilene, and Carl Castleberry and wife Juanell of Borger, TX; grandchildren, Cristen Short, Cody Castleberry, Christopher Castleberry, Nicholas Castleberry and Kayla Castleberry; great-grandchildren, Madison Short and Logan Short; sister, Imogene Shields of Georgetown, TX; and his best friend, Wanda Maddox.
