Elizabeth (Libby) Hooks Mathis

Elizabeth (Libby) Hooks Mathis, 80, died July 27, 2020 in Abilene, Texas. Born Winifred Elizabeth Mitchell on April 21, 1940, in Brooksville, FL, she was the daughter of Col. Robert C. and Winifred Mitchell. As the daughter of a career Army officer she lived in Maryland, Alaska, El Paso, and Florida as a child.

Libby married Jerry Hooks on June 4, 1960. To this union were born two daughters. In 1989 she married Jack Mathis and they made their home for many years in Proctor, Texas. She lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried, and then one day she up and died.”

Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Catherine Mitchell, and brothers, Robert and Ralph Mitchell.

Aunt Libby known to me. She was full of laughter and cheer. She was smiling and always had stories to tell. She and my Uncle Jack were a hoot. They were where we went to many family reunions and surprise visits. I love them dearly and they will be missed.
Photo is one of my favorite, we found a T-Shirt shop in downtown Grandberry. It was a fun day and I loved her giggles, cuteness she was indeed.
