

Emma Modell Gunter Crawford, 90, died Monday, July 11, 2011, at a local medical center. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St., officiated by Ross Blasingame and Preston Parker. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home.
Emma was born on September 27, 1920 in Bertram, Texas to Benjamin and Emma Wilkinson McNeill. She attended school in San Saba where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Carlton Gunter. They were married for 62 1/2 years. After moving to Abilene in 1953 she volunteered her time at Oaks at Radford Hills Nursing Home and attended Scoggins Beauty Academy and later worked out of her home as a beautician. Emma was a member of 11th and Willis Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Carlton Gunter who passed away in 2001; her second husband James Crawford who passed away in 2010 and a son-in-law Grady Dement.
Survivors include her son Carlton Gunter and wife Tana of Baird, TX; a daughter Darlene Dement of Abilene, TX; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Neal Gunter, Corky Dement, Ryan Dement, Clayton Dement, John Nichols, and Lupe Ledesma. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank White and Walt Abbott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Service Center, 901 Mesquite, Abilene, TX 79601.
