

Erma Jewel Hicks of Hawley, Texas went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 17, 2010. She was born February 4, 1934, in Haskell County, Texas to Mr and Mrs L. W. Hill. Erma was educated in Abilene at Abilene High School. She married Tyrus Allen Hicks on March 22, 1957 at Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. Erma attended Odessa College in 1968. She worked many different jobs over the years of which the most important was being a wife to Ty and mother to her family. Ty and Erma were married for 48 years before Ty went on to the arms of the Lord in June of 2005. She set such a great example of a wife’s love for her husband and dedication to him the last 3 years of Ty’s life on this earth. During those 3 years as his sole caretaker she truly grew to understand God’s unmerited favor. She poured her life into her marriage, kids, extended family, friends, and her church. She loved serving others and showing God’s love to them through her devotion, prayer, and time. She was a member of North Park Assembly of God in Abilene, Texas. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, Mother, Aunt, Sister, friend, and servant. She loved her friends and family deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ty, parents Lawrence and Ruby Hill, sister Linda Snow, and brothers Dubby Hill and Jerry Bumbard.
She is survived by son Mike Hicks of Fort Worth and his children Michael Lynn and wife Paula of Eufala, OK and Lauren of Lindsey, Texas, son Chris Hicks and his wife Kelly and their children Jordyn, Jyllian, and Reagan of Flatonia, Texas, son Greg Hicks and his wife Jackie of Midland and their children Kelsi Marshall and her husband Tyler of Lubbock, Amber Shock and her husband Seth of Stanton, and Amy Riddle of Coahoma, sister Glenda Snyder of Hawley, sister-in-law Frances Hill of Albuquerque, NM, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Bunny Hicks of Snyder, brother and sister-in-law Ken and Martha Spurgeon of Abilene, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including one dear special friend of 67 years, Doris Calkins of Spring Valley, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home Hospice of Midland, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, Texas, 79701 and memorials can be donated to North Park Assembly of God, 1918 Jameson St, Abilene, Texas, 79603.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at North Park Assembly of God, with Sam Earp officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
