Martha Ethel Cyrena Jennings Waldrip passed away on Wenesday, May 13, 2015. Ethel (as she was known to most) was born on January 5, 1921 to Hypie and James Jennings, and raised in Montague County, TX. In 1937, she married Otto Dublin Waldrip, who became a Field Artillery Sergeant in the U.S. Army. They had three boys; Jim, Elwyn, and Mack. Ethel always loved children. For many years, she ran a childcare out of her home where she tirelessly helped to raise generations of young people. Those kids loved her, and when they grew up and had kids of their own, they’d have her keep them too. She was looked upon as a surrogate parent by many and was loved and revered by many more. Ethel was very active in her church, Woodlawn Church of Christ, and had a great many friends there. Ethel will always be remembered as a wonderful Mom and Grandmama, and as a loving wife who tended for years to the health of her husband, Otto. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Dublin Waldrip; her oldest son, Otto James Waldrip; and her youngest son, William Mack Waldrip. She is survived by her son, Elwyn Guy Waldrip and Elwyn’s fiancée, Sherry Schrimsher, who lovingly tended to Ethel’s health during her declining years. She is also survived by her grandsons, Kerry Kim Waldrip, Jason David Waldrip, Damon Lane Waldrip, and Nathan Geoffrey Waldrip; and her great-grandchildren, Dakota James Waldrip, Roni Nicole Waldrip, Reagan Rochelle Waldrip, David Michael Waldrip, Drew Talon Waldrip, and Stephen Waldrip. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
