Gary Herslee Gossett, 56, of Abilene, passed away on Monday July 2, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday July 7, 2018 in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, located at 542 Hickory St. with burial to follow in Hamby Cemetery. Robert Krackenfels, John Snyder, Billy (Punky) Anders, Danny Beasley, Randy Etheridge and Randy Craig will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6 to 8pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
Gary was born on October 8, 1961 in Abilene. He grew up in Hamby, going to school at Albany. He played football in high school making the Who's Who in Texas Football. He also played baseball & softball many years and was even accepted to the Texas Rangers Tryout Team.
Gary's love was being a truck driver. He had many dear friends he considered family along the highways, most of them knowing him as "Whiskey Kid".
He married his wife, Lesa, on July 19, 2013 in Taos, New Mexico. There was no other like Gary, he had the biggest heart. He loved his family and friends very much, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Dean Gossett.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Lesa Gossett of Abilene; mother, Darlyne Gossett of Abilene; brother, Gregg Gossett and wife Claudia of Clyde; his children, Christian Clyburn and husband Tim of Merkel; Kaycee Jones and husband Tyler of Anson; and Carley James Gossett of Anson; stepchildren, Belinda Southall and husband Dan of Abilene, and Randy Harris of Moran, five grandchildren, Tucker, Kaeden, Carson, Kinlee and Hudson; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many, many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the local ASPCA.
