

Mr. Gene Lewis Hackman, 74, departed this life on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at a local hospital in Abilene, TX. His remains will lie in state for viewing Thursday, September 6, & Friday September 7, 2012 at Elliott- Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX. A visitation & viewing for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 11:00a.m. to 11:45a.m. with a service immediately following at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, with Adna Bean officiating.
Gene Hackman was born December 22, 1937 to Burdette and Emma Hackman in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Hackman, also known as “Peter” to his family and friends in Mobile, was the last immediate member of the Hackman Family.
He graduated from Central High School in Mobile, Al. in 1956 and joined the U.S. Air Force in September, 1956. He retired from the Air Force in September 1976 after serving tours in Japan, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Viet Nam, and throughout the United States. After retiring he worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and as a Concealed Handgun Instructor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Burdette (Emma) Hackman. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; one sister, Mrs. Alice Hackman Rankin; two brothers, Mr. Thomas Hackman and Mr. Sylvester Hackman.
Mr. Hackman is survived by a loving and devoted wife of 51 years: Mrs. Norma Turner Hackman; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Hackman of Abilene TX, Mrs. Ruth Mitchell, Columbia, MO., and Ms. Evelyn Wilson, Jefferson City, MO. He is survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
