Geneva U. Guiterrez

Geneva U. Gutierrez, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Graveside services will be held on Friday March 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Geneva was born on August 7, 1929, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her parents were Francisco and Damiana Urrutia. Geneva married Juan Gutierrez in 1952, and together they traveled the world until 1975 when Juan retired from the U.S. Air Force. Geneva worked for Ford Motor Credit, and then was associated with the banking industry for many years, including First Security Savings where she retired from in 1991.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Smith Lightfoot, Cynthia Gamez; son-in-laws, Gilbert Guerrero and Amador Gamez; three sisters, Mary Lillian Contreras and husband Ezequiel, Anna Aguirre, Irma Garza and husband Dionel; and one brother, Frank Urrutia and wife Virginia; grandchildren, Nicholas Gamez, Alexandra Gamez, A.J. Gamez and Amanda Gamez; great-granddaughters, Emery Gamez and Bella Gamez.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care at 1682 Hickory, Abilene, Texas, or to the donor's favorite charity.
