CMSgt. George Dennis Jenks, USAF (Ret.)

George was born in Wabash, Indiana on December 27, 1939 to Herbert and Frances Jenks.

He was a proud veteran who served first in the United States Navy and then the Air Force for a total of 27 years, during which he attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and received numerous distinctions for his exemplary service, including the Meritorious Service Medal. While stationed in the Philippines, he met Remedios, whom he later married. They were happily wed for 65 years, and they raised their four children Michael, Robert, David, and Remy Marie together in a loving home.

George’s adventurous spirit and military career led him all around the planet. He loved to explore the United States and the world at large, including countries such as the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Russia, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. During his travels abroad, he enjoyed encountering different cultures and experiencing new things. He lived in the Philippines for decades, fully delving into Filipino culture and life in all its dimensions. In Kazakhstan, while visiting his daughter-in-law’s family, he drank exotic alcohols, rode horses in the mountains, and relaxed in saunas followed by ice water plunges. The allure of the open road called to him, and he loved driving the highways on his many road trips to states such Indiana, California, and Wisconsin.

While George enjoyed traveling, he also loved spending time at home with his family. Among other things, he loved to fish, and one of his many catches was a venomous stonefish in the Philippines that permanently damaged his thumb. He was a warm man with a memory that would make an elephant jealous, and he could tell all sorts of fascinating stories about his life, replete with intricate details about all of the people he met and the places he had seen.

A devoted husband, during his last five years of life, he selflessly cared for his beloved wife Remedios with great dedication and love. George adored spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could.

George is predeceased by his daughter Remy Marie, and he is survived by his loving wife Remedios; his sister Cheryl; his children Michael, Robert, and David; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, at 10:00 a.m. on August 15, 2026. Following the service, a Committal Service will be held at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
