

Gordon Lee Matheny, a beloved man known for his hard-working and kind-hearted nature, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 7, 1948, in McCook, Nebraska, he was a cherished resident of Abilene, Texas, at the time of his passing.
Gordon was a retired msgt in the Air Force, having served for 24 years with dedication and excellence. He worked as a strategic airlift maintenance technician and an aircrew airlift aircraft maintenance technician. His unwavering commitment to his military career and his country was admired by his colleagues and superiors alike.
In his personal life, Gordon found joy in simple pleasures. He loved sitting outside and watching his birds, spending extensive moments in appreciation of nature. Cherishing his time with his family, especially by being with his wife and spending cherished moments with his son, brought him great happiness. These thoughtful and intimate interactions defined his days, making him a truly remarkable person.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Juvy Matheny; son, Joseph Matheny; Daughters, Jemma-vel, Michelle Rose, and Marilyn Matheny; and numerous grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Freda Matheny.
A visitation for Gordon will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX, on November 17, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A committal service will take place later that day at 11:00 am at External Service Location, 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene, TX.
Gordon's legacy as a beloved, thoughtful, and kind-hearted member of his community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him. His life serves as a testament to the power of love, dedication, and kindness.
