Jackie L. Ray

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Buffalo Gap Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.

Jackie was born on May 5, 1954, in Abilene, Texas to the late Adolph Lang and Helen Joan (Gooch) Lang. She was raised in Abilene and Buffalo Gap. At a young age the family relocated to Midland, Texas where she graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1972. Jackie married John Patrick Ray on June 12, 1997. Together they settled back in Abilene.

To say Jackie loved her family was an understatement. She really cared for their needs. She was fiercely protective and strong-willed. She created many special memories when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came. She had a successful 27-year career with Walmart in Loss Prevention. Her passing brings to a close a beautiful life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers.

She is survived by her husband, John Ray; children, Rachael Whirlow (Joe Whirlow), Cherie McKenzie (Michael Woodrome) and Michael McKenzie (Cynthia), Amber Ray and Michael Ray; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (CJ Jones), Courtney Lindsey, Ryan Lindsey, Whitney McKenzie, Alexander McKenzie and Makayla Ray; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Glenda Southerland, Connie Hargrave and Lea Ann LaRowe; numerous nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Kidney Foundation.
