James Everett “Inky” Horton was born on December 9, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to the late Everett Baxter Horton and Doris Law Horton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Louise Horton, and her son, Thomas Eric Blanks. He was a graduate of Kimball High and the University of North Texas where he made numerous lifelong friends, most of whom are now deceased.
Inky was one of a kind. To say his life was unconventional would be an understatement. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, and spent countless hours outdoors with his family and friends. He was independent and opinionated, but never mean spirited. Inky put a smile on everyone’s face.
After Sharon’s passing, Inky contracted a chronic illness which eventually took his life. In life and in death, Inky conducted his life under his own terms. He said that he was ready to go and see Sharon and Eric, and now he is home. Special thanks to Todd and Cassye Blanks who provided a home and care for the last years of his life.
Inky is survived by his brother Billy Joe Horton (Margie) and brother Randy Mike Horton (Marilyn) and many nieces, nephews and grands. He is also survived by stepson Todd Blanks (Cassye), Lance Blanks (Colleen), and Jeanine (widow of Eric) Blanks. Frequent contact with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy.
