James “Papa” Weaver, 76, of Abilene passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2020 Graveside in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery where his earthly remains will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. Services will be officiated by Mike Jones. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S. in Abilene.

James was born on November 24, 1943 to the late Ruby Mae (Huddleston) Straley and raised in Abilene. At the age of 12 he met Betty who would become his wife and they would spend many years together before her passing. Papa was a kind a gentle person who enjoyed life, his family and friends. He was always there to brighten the lives of others. He was a devout Elvis and James Dean fan and collected a lot of unique memorabilia. He was an avid reader and spent countless hours a day reading his westerns. All who knew James loved and adored him very much. James has now been reunited with his wife. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Weaver; his mother, Ruby Straley; brothers, Charles Straley, Kenneth Weaver, and Robert Weaver; sisters, Lilly Littlejohn, and Opal Hollis.

He is survived by his son, Charles Weaver; daughter, Nita Weaver; sister, Joyce Johnson; grandchildren, Brittney, Joshua Weaver, and Amy Mershan all of Abilene, TX; great-grandchildren, Alexia, Tony, Nathan, Grayson Rocha; a host a nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Yo my brother in-house law but more like my brother, we gave had a wonderful friendship, I will miss you my dear friend. Our coffee drinking days are over but we will do them again someday, for now you'll gave Hack, Hubert and of course Betty to drink all the coffee you want. Love and miss you.....

James andUncle James, you will be misssed by many, and I know of one person that will miss the coffee dates and great times yall have shared. May restrauants find a cook and humor as you shared with so many. May you rest iin peace enjoy being back with Aunt Betty.
