Jason Edward Pettit, 42, of Abilene, Texas, left this world far too soon on August 19, 2025. Born in Amarillo, Texas on October 20, 1982, Jason spent most of his life in the place that shaped him—surrounded by family, laughter, and his own brand of mischief.
Jason was one of a kind. He had a laugh that could fill a room and a sense of humor that was equal parts inappropriate and unforgettable. He worked hard at everything he did, whether it was his job, a project, or spoiling his beloved dogs. He poured his creativity into macramé, leather work, and even rolling his own cigars. Just recently, he transformed an old bed frame into a kitchen island—because in true Jason fashion, he could see potential and beauty where others only saw junk. He had a love for collecting uranium glass, the kind of quirky hobby that fit perfectly with his larger-than-life personality.
Jason is survived by his parents, Tammy and John Straker, Michael Pettit; his sisters Baylee Merryman (Trent) and Makinzie Figueroa (Emerson); his grandfather James Hinkley; his uncle Steven and aunt Donna, with their children Megan, Abigail, and Shae; his uncle Jim and aunt Dena, with their daughters Ariel and Mallorie; his aunt Carolyn Herman and cousin Michael Herman.
Though Jason’s time here was far too short, his humor, creativity, and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A celebration of life for Jason will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, followed by a reception.
