Jeane B. McFarland passed away at her daughter's home in Austin on November 30, 2018, at the age of 95. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6 to 8pm on Friday evening at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. She is survived by her son, Richard H. Hart; her daughter, Amy M. Pro, (Gilbert); a sister, Doris Grosvenor; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Paul Pro (Katie), Melissa Pro Wilkinson (Dennis Sr.), Sarah Hart Micke, (Kevin), and Emily Hart Rhode (Brandon); six great-grandchildren: Aidan Pro, Brady Pro, Charlie Pro, Molly Wilkinson, Dennis Wilkinson Jr., and Watt Wilkinson; a nephew, David Grosvenor (Carol); and great nieces/nephews: Brandon Grosvenor, Brett Grosvenor (Leanna), Rachel Wilson (Mike) and Courtney Grosvenor. Jeane was preceded in death by her father, Joe Paul Bohannon, her mother, Winnisue J. Bohannon, her first husband, Hood Hart, and her second husband, Frank Cheatham McFarland, and by her nephew, W.D. Grosvenor Jr. Jeane was born in Bonham, Texas, on November 13, 1923, but was a resident of Abilene from her earliest years. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended North Texas University, then served as an assistant to the quartermaster at Florence Army Air Base in South Carolina during World War II. She was a longtime member of The Church of the Heavenly Rest serving as church secretary under Parson Gerhart from 1950-1952. Jeane was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Abilene and a member of the American Contract Bridge League becoming a Silver Life Master in 2007. She credits bridge for keeping her mind sharp until her last days. Jeane and Frank moved to Laredo, Texas, in 1967 to open a pharmacy where they worked side by side for over 20 years. They retired and moved back to Abilene in 1986. She lived the last five years of her life with her daughter, Amy, and son-in-law, Gilbert, in Austin where she cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Great." Jeane was a believer in the importance of education. She was proud to have been involved in the organization of St. John School and to have encouraged her children and grandchildren through college and often through graduate school. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to All Saints' Episcopal Loaves and Fishes Program at 209 West 27th Street, Austin, TX 78705.
