JC was born on January 23, 1944 “his national holiday” in Abilene, Texas, to Maria and Jesus Carriola Sr.; he was the youngest of five children. He attended public schools in Abilene and finished 10th grade. He quit school to help his dad and family.
He met the love of his life, Gertrude, in June 1963, and went on to marry her in August of that same year. Together they had three children: Patrick Carriola (Leticia), Sandra Escobedo (Santos), and Maryalice Escobedo (Macario).
From a very young age, he was always a hard worker and provider for his family, from nursery worker to landscaper to managing car washes around town. After all of this, he went on to co-owning a bakery, until he found his calling in plumbing. He earned his masters degree and started his very own plumbing business, JCs Plumbing, where he later retired in 2011. Although he stayed busy with his business, one of his favorite hobbies was to make tamales during the holidays, a delicacy his whole family loved.
He is preceded in death by his first born daughter Conception Carriola; parents Maria and Jesus Carriola; brothers Candido Carriola and Juan Carriola; and sisters Ignacia Nájera and Sara Carriola.
Left to cherish his memory is his beautiful wife of 60 years Gertrude Carriola; his children Patrick (Leticia) Carriola, Sandra (Santos) Escobedo, and Maryalice (Macario) Escobedo; grandchildren Priscilla, Adam, Amber, Anthony, Mark, Jessica, Kimberly, Santos Jr., Adrianna, Javier Jr., and Alyssa; bonus grandchildren Teresa, Christopher, Leandro, and Macario III; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Although he was a devoted husband and father, he loved his Dallas cowboys and going to the casinos to gamble.
