

Jo Ann Griggs left this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 30, 2026. She was born in Abilene, Texas, on May 5, 1935. She was the oldest of three children born to Larimore Sutton and Eudona Mattie Boley.
Jo Ann attended Hamby Elementary School and graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. After graduating, she attended Abilene Christian College for two years, where she met Waymond Earl Griggs. Jo Ann married Waymond, the love of her life, on September 1, 1956, and they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. She was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of the Church of Christ, most recently worshiping with the Northwest Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas.
Throughout the years, Jo Ann lived in Midland, Kermit, Odessa, Granbury, Plano, and Abilene, Texas.
Everyone who knew Jo Ann recognized her as beautiful, loving, hospitable, approachable, and selfless. She served as an administrator at Ector Junior High School in Odessa and was even a part-time, unofficial cross-country coach at Permian High School. She loved reading, working on word puzzles, and watching college football. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds that visited her backyard. Jo Ann had a warm spirit and a wonderful sense of humor.
Nothing was more important to Jo Ann than her family; they were her entire world. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother who cherished every moment with those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Waymond E. Griggs. She is survived by her sons, Michael Waymond Griggs and Mark Damon Griggs; her daughter-in-law, Mia Kroger Griggs; and her grandsons, Ryan Matthew Griggs and Ethan Michael Griggs. She also dearly loved her brothers and sisters in Christ, especially Hazel Fillmon.
Visitation will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, US, on August 5, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Hamby Cemetery, 13394 Co Rd 302, Abilene, TX 79601, US, on August 6, 2026, at 10:00 am and will be officiated by Dr. Larry Fitzgerald.
