John James Tarsiewicz

Funeral services for John J. Tarsiewicz, 72, of Abilene, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 22, 2016, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277, Abilene, Texas. John was born November 1, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Alexander A. and Catherine (Magee) Tarsiewicz. He passed from this life on Sunday evening, January 17, 2016, at the Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

John married the former Susan Lee Snider at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas, on August 19, 1967.

John received a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and joined the United States Air Force immediately following. He proudly served almost 11 years and was honorably discharged as the rank of Captain. He later earned his master's degree from Oklahoma City University.

He loved to golf and bowl and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; daughters, Heather Whiting and husband William, and Deborah Tarsiewicz; grandchildren, T. J. Whiting, Hayden Marie Whiting and Jase Whiting, all of Abilene, Texas; brothers, Kevin Tarsiewicz and wife Kathy of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, Mark Tarsiewicz and wife Rita of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Alexander Tarsiewicz of Mount Laurel, New Jersey; sister Lois Childs and husband Fred of Yardley, Pennsylvania; brother in law and sister in law, Jerry M. and Sherry Snider of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
