On February 13, 1950, she married the love of her life Jesus Jose Maldonado Hernandez. They made their home in Ackerly, Texas until 1966 when her eldest son, Guadalupe Maldonado, suffered an automobile accident and died at the young age of fifteen. The Maldonado Family then relocated to Jones County, where they made their new home in Stamford, Texas.
Josefa was an active member of Saint Ann's Catholic Church where she was instrumental in organizing the Cinco de Mayo Jamica. She introduced Ballet Folkorico Music and Ballet Folkorico Dancers. She and her husband Jesus, also helped organize the Doce de Diciembre Celebrations honoring our Lady of Guadalupe, complete with Mananitas, Music, and a play diplicting the re-inactment of the apparritions to Juan Diego in Tepeyac Hil, now a suburb of Mexico City on December 12, 1531. A picture deplicting Josefa dressed in Mexican attire can be viewed at the Cowboy Country Museum located at 113 S. Wetherbee St. , Stamford, Texas. She moved to Abilene, Texas along with her son, Vick, after her husband of 60 years passed away.
She then became of member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a proud Texan. She was a member of the Crusillos de Cristadad.
Her hobbies included: singing, dancing, sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking Mexican delicasis, and praying and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
She attended daily masses until her multiple medical conditions limited her ability to leave her home. She enjoyed watching EWTN daily masses, prayed the Holy Rosary, the Chaplet of Saint Michael, and the Chaplet of Devine Mercy. She remained a devoted Roman Catholic until Sunday, January 20, 2019, when she was called to join her love of life, Jesus, in heaven to rejoice in eternal peace and happiness.
Josefa was preceeded in death by: her parents, Carolos Corrales and Antonia Grando. Her brothers; Leonardo, Soledad and Badomero, sisters, Jesucita Gonzales, Brother-in-law, Bralio Contreras and Martin Gonzales. Sister-in-Law, Benita Corrales, Her loving spouse, Jesus de Jose Maldonado Hernandez, her beloved son, Guadalupe Maldonado.
She is survived by her children, Efigenio (Vick) Maldonado, Abilene, Texas; Dr. Charles Maldonado and his wife Rachel (Tamez) Maldonado, Tyler, TX; Benita Dudensig, McCamey, Texas; AuDelia Lopez, Abilene, TX; Maria Louisa Lechuga and Spouse Frank Lechuga, Stamford, TX; Antonio (Tony) Maldonado-Rodela, Abilene, TX; Rosa Antonia Robinson and spouse, Arden Robinson, Lubbock, TX; and Sebastiana (Saby) Maldonado-Espinoza and spouse, Abel Espinoza, Round Rock, TX. and her 31 grandchildren and their spouses and 67 great grand children, and 11 great great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 5410 Buffalo Gap Church, Abilene, Texas, 79606. Following the Holy Mass, a procession will be traveling to Nugent, Texas to the Maldonado-Gonzales Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life, Jesus de Jose Maldonado Hernandez at his right side.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home located in Abilene, Texas.
